Hola! I'm Cynthia, the heart and soul behind this brand. Growing up in Peru,I was surrounded by beautiful handmade textiles that sparked my creativity. I'm a passionate mountain guide, a devoted dog lover, and a coffee enthusiast who can't resist a good brew. Traveling the world has made me a true nomad at heart, and I've had the joy of living in so many different places, which has deepened my love for diverse cultures and my own roots. After spending amazing years guiding folks through the stunning landscapes of Peru and Patagonia, I now call Vancouver Island - Canada home. Here I love to spend every possible moment in the mountains with my wonderful husband, Evan, and our two playful pups, Nuna and Sami. Excited to share this journey with you!
I really missed the colorful culture of Peru when I made the move to Canada. With my entrepreneurial spirit, I wanted to start a company that could uplift small communities by helping them earn a sustainable living through their traditional skills. Plus, I wanted to share Peru’s vibrant culture with the world!. Living in Canada, I saw a fantastic opportunity to bring the beautiful high-quality and colourful items I grew up with to everyone here. Now, I'm excited to import and sell these amazing creations from my home country!
At Peruvian Nuna, we have a big heart for giving back!. We proudly support “One Tree Planted”, an amazing organization that's all about restoring forests, creating jobs, and building strong communities while protecting habitats for biodiversity. With every product you purchased you're helping to plant trees - how cool is that?. I'm really excited about our mission and the dream of going back to Peru each year to give back to the wonderful communities that provide our products. By teaming up with local community leaders I hope to tackle the unique challenges they face, whether it's building classrooms for students, ensuring everyone has access to safe drinking water, or even setting up off-grid electricity. Together, we can make a difference.
The word ‘Nuna’ comes from Quechua, the beautiful language of the Incan civilization, and it means soul, spirit, or awareness. For us, Nuna is all about the spirits that dwell in Peru’s sacred mountains, keeping a watchful eye over the land, alongside Pachamama, or Mother Earth, and the resilient souls of the Peruvian people who support their families through this incredible environment.
As nature enthusiasts and avid hikers, we drew inspiration for our logo from one of the most breathtaking mountains on earth, Mt. Alpamayo. Soaring to 5,947 meters in the heart of Peru’s “Cordillera Blanca”.
Our Products
Contrary to today’s fast fashion, our products are designed and made to last, to be kept and loved. All of our products are created with sustainability in mind and are sourced from family-based artisan projects, resisting mass-scale factory production. Peruvian artisans have carefully crafted each one of our products. Some of them are made with ancient traditional techniques and some are mixed with modern techniques. They're made with the finest fibers, by the most skillful artisans. We started a few years ago working with artisans from three different areas of Peru, today we are working with artisans from nine different areas, and we are always looking for more opportunities to give jobs to other communities. We are constantly working to bring you happy, colorful, and quality collections that will stay part of your wardrobe or home decor for many years.
- Many of our products are made by hand; they can be slightly different from one to the other. We hope that you appreciate this uniqueness, and love them as much as we do. They all took many hours of dedication to create before they could arrive at your home.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
We care about the environment and especially our oceans. We try to avoid using plastics and creating as little waste as possible. In our journey of learning how to get as eco-friendly as possible we have come up with this packaging solution:
- 100% Compostable mailers made from cornstarch and cassava root!
- Tissue paper completely acid-free and FSC certified, with soy ink as opposed to traditional petroleum-based ink.
- Paper tape that is eco-friendly and recyclable.
- Corrugated packaging made with high-recycled contents. They are reusable and help to save energy since they’re not made out of virgin materials.
